Easy added shelf space.

I didn't have any more space shelf available,  for my new bowling pin lamp. And I needed a tall space.

So , I extended my existing shelves by adding wooden sheets , stained a contrasting color. these are staking shelves, so I removed the top stack, added stained wood sheets , put top stack back in place. this gave me the needed tall space x 4. The weight of the shelves hold it in place. Now I have 4 tall spaces from 1 simple trick. What do you think ?

Bowling Pin lamp

Hope every one had a wonderful holiday !  I know I did.
I wanted to share a project we did , some time back. I always loved the look of an old used bowling pin .
And I always talked about making a lamp out of one someday.  Finally, I found one in a second hand store  for $ 1.00.  I than went to my friendly Home Depot and bought a lamp kit, $ 6.95. Than off to Dollar general for a $5.00 shade. I had my husband drill a hole up the middle of the pin ( please secure pin tightly, before drilling ). I than assembled the lamp kit parts into lamp as per directions, and added a plastic lid turned upside down, cutting a hole for cord. Added the black shade and here it is .

Decorated Floating shelves

Love , this space .

under the counter floating shelves finished.

This is the finished project. I love the floating look and the x-tra space. The shelves are supported on wooden cleats that run under the shelves , out of sight.

Below are more before finished pic's. Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Under the counter Floating shelves.

We have this large L shaped counter.( you know the one covered in matches ( project listed ) We used for stools. For a long time now, no one seemed to use the stool seating any more. So , I decided to use the space for shelving.

Bath room mirror and towel hanger. continued....

The white mirror was a dirty mess, but cleanable and for $2.00, a still ! The 5 door knobs from the flea market were $5.00. The holes where drilled. We added glue into the drilled holes for added strainth. These door knobs had a long  threaded arm, we just screwed them in to the drilled holes and let it dry.  My mother and my grandmother just loved this project when it was done.. So did I !

Bath room mirror and towel hanger

Here's a small project. Made  from a simple $2.00 yard sale item and a $5.00 item  from a flea market. This project didn't take much work and can be made up of a variety of different items put together.

Before I forget . The end trim of the counter, With the design pressed in.Was jazzed up by using red permanent marker. Then sealed the same as the counter tops. Next, we will be finishing up some much needed shelves, in an often wasted space . Before , during and after pic's. Till then.

Counter tops that will light up you kitchen !!!!!

Our counter tops , standard darker red color. I needed to jazz them up ,just a bit. So, I covered them with ?
YES ! That's right !

MATCHES. I layed out the pattern first, to see what would work best, just like planning a tile job. Then applied the glue ( small work erea at a time ) and layed the sticks. After they where good and dry . We applied coats of polyurathane, to seal-many,many coats. We did one thick coat about every 3 days,x 3.

The last pic. shows the befor.  Now people come to visit, some never notice that it's matches, others , IS THAT ? Then they reach to touch it.
Wow it looks great.

As you can see we clear coated some boards and dark stained the others. You can order these panels from ( MY  FAVORED STORES ) Home depot , Lowes or your local cabinet store. Hope you enjoyed ! Now get creative ! Tomorrow, I'll show you my counter tops . They'll light up your kitchen. Till then .

CHECKER BOARD WALLS !!!!!!!!

Add some WOW to your walls !!

We had bought a house that was in very bad condition.  But the basic structure was sound and strong . So, we gutted the inside and and began the remodel. I wanted to do things in the most creative ways and the cheapest possible . BUT, I didn't want it to look cheap . I wanted people to come visit and be amazed at what could be done with a little money and a lot of creativity. Your wondering if my husband thinks I'm crazy, aren't you ? Well, if he does, he's never told me so! He has a saying, he always tells me when I get in these moods. He says, baby doll, if you can dream it, we can build it ! So, we gutted and bought cabnets. When you buy cabinets you get  veneer sides. Well, I didn't want this on my cabinets , I was covering mine with pine to match my pine walls and ceilings. BUT ! I just hate to let some thing go to waste. I put them on my end wall ! Check it out !

Enough cakes for now. My sister brandy used to reupholster furniture . She was agian very good ! I have never reupholstered any thing. I made slip covers once for couch cushions. Not the same. I would love to try reupholstering a larg L shape sectional, mabe with a table built into the L corner. BUT, untill I find one , i'll have to make do . This is a project I did not long ago. This is an old student desk ( litterally , left be hind when the students graduated. I knew when I saw the desk it would make a nice island. I had muy husband (Chuck ) remove the top and turn it around ( I wanted the rounded end on the same end as the 3 drawers). The rest was a black walnut paint job and crome cased black rollers ( to raise the heightand make it eazy to move) . To the key board pull out, I added a peice of trim and some deviding slats of wood, This space now holds all my boxes of baggies. Out of sight is always good. Then a wooden top and wooden planks on back for pots and racks and TaDa ! I added 3 deep drawers , and pull out storage for all my baggies and food wraps, pot and pans and rack storage and counter work space for very little money. Now my trash can sits at one end (out of site) I don't like looking at a trash can . And I will be adding a paper towel holder to the other end. A project like this can really free up your kitchen work space, and it's easy to do. Best of all you get to coustomize to your decor,a one of a kind ,low cost ,Green project. I'v already had my son ( rock) bring me another project sort-a like mine, to do for hem. I'll take befor and after pic's and share them. Thats all for now, we'll chat agian soon.

Vintage Knocks: Calling All Bloggers !

as talked about the black christmas tree. It really did turn out verry well. Stars, for the lights, angles, pinecones, and the word wish. This year I was sure doing a lot of wishing on a star and praying .

It was the frist time in my life when i realized, Christmas had lost it's magic ! I ALWAYS ALWAYS, LOVED CHRISTMAS ! Or , did I only just beleave it was Christmas that I loved so much. I come to realize it was the Company. The loved ones that always depended on me to dec-the-halls ( and every other room in the house ). I totally lived to make them smile, to give them that twinkle of  lights reflecting in the eyes of my mother and my aunt. It would always make them feel so good. Listening to them tell me I had missed a spot or that something was cock-eyed,as they would put it. 11 rooms, including the hall. all had a tree , all in its own color and style. 2 to 3 weeks of none stop decorating, just to light up thire eyes and make them smile . Of course, no one had to twist my arm. I have always enjoyed decorating for christmas. But once my kids had grown up to the age where they didn't seem to care if the house was decorated or not ( by thire teens ,they would run like the dickens novel reads if I just hinted about decorating ) so i admit ! It was nice to have some one who enjoyed it once agian. My aunt patty and my mom above,(left -right). Tighter than 2 peas in a pod, yet different as night and day. My aunt patty is still with us, We lost mom. I miss her so much. I would call her cell phone all the time, just to here her voice agian. The phone has stoped working and, well her I am , probably telling no-one all about them. It helps ! and so here are some more pic's. Till next time.
